Sweden experienced an uptick in its annual inflation rate, reaching 1.1% in August 2025, compared to 0.8% in July, aligning with preliminary forecasts. Although this marks the highest rate since February, it remains under the Riksbank's 2% target. Notable contributions to this increase were observed in the prices of clothing and footwear, which rose by 3.2% from a previous 2.4%, alongside miscellaneous goods and services, which saw a slight increase to 3.8% from 3.7%. Conversely, there was a deceleration in the inflation of food and non-alcoholic beverages, dropping to 4.7% from 5.1%, as well as in restaurants and hotels at 2.9% down from 3.1%, and in recreation and culture, which decreased significantly to 2.5% from 5.1%. Meanwhile, declines continued in sectors such as housing, water, electricity, gas, and other fuels, contracting by 1.9% following a larger decrease of 3.4%, and in transport with a reduction to 1.4% from 2.7%. On a month-to-month basis, consumer prices saw a 0.4% decrease, marking the first downturn after five months, counteracting the 0.2% increase witnessed in July, as confirmed by preliminary data. Concurrently, the CPI with a fixed interest rate (CPIF), which serves as the Riksbank's target metric, rose by 3.2% year-on-year in August, representing the fastest growth rate since January 2024, post a 3% increment registered in July.
