China has issued a strong advisory to Mexico regarding its intention to increase tariffs on vehicles manufactured in Asia, with a specific focus on Chinese automobiles, from 20% to 50%. The Ministry of Commerce expressed its hope that Mexico would approach this matter with extreme caution, considering the potential repercussions. The ministry underscored the significance of the China-Mexico trade relationship and voiced concerns about potential impacts on the bilateral economic partnership. Mexico's Economy Secretary, Marcelo Ebrard, confirmed the plan. This proposal forms part of a broader fiscal strategy influencing $52 billion worth of imports and is pending congressional approval. In response, China has pledged to "take necessary measures" to safeguard its interests. Additionally, it criticized the "U.S. abuse of tariffs," appealing to nations to maintain free trade principles and to refrain from actions that could negatively impact other countries.
