2016.11.1000:29:00UTC+00Dollar Climbs on Trump Turnaround Rally

The dollar climbed, as it extended gains on the rise in U.S. Treasury yields due to high inflation expectations after Republican Donald Trump's win in the presidential election. The WSJ Dollar Index increased one percent to 88.89.

Prices declined on benchmark 10-year Treasury notes and 30-year bonds, pulling up the yields to highest levels in 10 months amid a startling turnaround from the selloff in risk assets and surge in safe-haven bonds on Trump's victory. The dollar rose against the Japanese yen by 0.1 percent at 105.72. The greenback jumped 8.6 percent to 19.86 against the Mexican peso. The U.S. dollar was up 2.5 percent against the South Korean won and it also reached a historical peak against the Mongolian togrog and the Turkish lira.

The euro surged as high as $1.1299, its highest since Sept 8., before dropping to $1.0902.
