The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, which monitors shipping rates for dry commodities, increased for the fifth consecutive day on Wednesday, reaching its highest point since June 17, climbing 2.1% to 1,906 points. This growth was primarily driven by the larger-size vessel segment. Notably, the capesize index, which typically handles 150,000-tonne cargoes such as iron ore and coal, rose for the fifth straight session, up 4.3% to 2,642 points. Similarly, the supramax index saw a 2.2% increase, reaching 1,315 points. Conversely, the panamax index, which generally transports 60,000-70,000 tonnes of coal or grain, ended its nine-day upward trend, decreasing by 1.2% to settle at 1,967 points.
