In August 2025, the seasonally adjusted number of individuals registered as unemployed in Norway increased to 64,200, up from a revised figure of 63,400 the previous month. This represents the highest level since January 2022, accounting for 2.1% of the workforce. Unemployment rose across various occupational sectors, with the highest rate observed in child and youth work at 3.1%, while academic professions experienced the lowest rate at 0.9%. Regionally, Oslo and Østfold exhibited the highest unemployment rates at 2.9%, whereas Troms had the lowest at 1.3%. Despite this, demand for labor remained robust, with 31,100 job vacancies reported in August, equating to 2,000 per working day and reflecting a 2% increase compared to the previous year. These vacancies were predominantly in the fields of health, nursing and care, retail and sales, and tourism and transport. On a non-seasonally adjusted basis, the number of fully unemployed individuals decreased slightly to 64,700 in August from 65,000 in July.
