In July 2025, retail sales in Brazil experienced a monthly decline of 0.3%, marking the fourth consecutive decrease and aligning with market predictions. The downturn was primarily influenced by a reduction in sales across categories such as office equipment and supplies, IT and communication, which fell by 3.1%; textiles, apparel, and footwear, down by 2.9%; other personal and household goods, decreasing by 0.6%; and hypermarkets, supermarkets, food products, beverages, and tobacco, which saw a reduction of 0.3%. However, certain sectors did report gains, including furniture and household appliances, up by 1.5%; books, newspapers, magazines, and stationery, which increased by 1.0%; fuels and lubricants, rising by 0.7%; and pharmaceutical, medical, orthopedic, and perfumery products, which went up by 0.6%. Sales dropped in 16 out of 27 states, with the most significant declines observed in Rondônia (-2.2%), Minas Gerais (-1.1%), and Paraíba (-1.0%). In the wider retail market, encompassing vehicles, motorcycles, parts, and accessories—which grew by 1.8%—as well as construction materials, with a growth of 0.4%, there was an overall rise in sales of 1.3%. When compared to July 2024, retail sales showed a year-on-year increase of 1.0%, continuing a four-month streak of annual growth.
