In August 2025, the annual inflation rate in Botswana climbed to 1.4%, up from the nearly five-year low of 1.1% recorded in July. Within this category, insurance costs rose to 13.4% from 12.9%, and personal care expenses increased to 5.8% from 4.8%. Additionally, the prices of alcoholic beverages and tobacco edged up to 6.5% from 6.4%, and food and non-alcoholic beverages saw a significant rise to 5% from 4.3%, with fruit prices notably surging to 14.8% from 9.8%. Conversely, there were declines in the prices of housing and utilities, with a decrease of 3.7% compared to a prior drop of 4.2%, and transportation costs, which fell by 1.6% compared to 1.9% previously. On a monthly scale, the Consumer Price Index (CPI) increased by 0.5% in August after a 0.7% decline in the previous month.
