FBI Director James B. Comey officially informed the Congress that he did not find material evidence in a recently uncovered batch of emails to change the agency's earlier conclusion that Democrat Hillary Clinton should not face any criminal charges for using a private email server for handling classified government information.

Director Comey made the announcement via a letter on Sunday, stating that the agency went the extra mile to finish its review on time and found no strong proof to change its findings in July.

The result of the review, which was released two days before the U.S. presidential election, removed the dark cloud hovering over Clinton's presidential campaign. Comey informed the Congress of the recently discovered trove of emails last week, causing Clinton lead's over her Republican rival Donald Trump to narrow in the final stretch of the presidential race before Tuesday's vote.

Trump criticized the meticulousness of the FBI review and voiced his confidence that the issue will not be easily swept under the rug.

The FBI email decision caused U.S. stock index futures to rally, while the U.S. dollar also gained against its major counterparts.
