The dry bulk index of the Baltic Exchange, which monitors freight rates for ships transporting dry commodities, experienced its fifth consecutive decline on Tuesday, decreasing by 4.5% to reach 1,889 points—its lowest level since July 15—due to limited seasonal demand. Similarly, the capesize index, indicative of 150,000-ton shipments such as iron ore and coal, also saw a decline for the fifth consecutive day, dropping by 6.2% to 3,337 points, marking a dip not seen for over a month. Meanwhile, the panamax index, which usually facilitates cargoes of 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, continued its downward streak for the 19th consecutive session, slipping by 1.3% to a six-month low of 1,266 points. In the smaller vessel category, the supramax index fell by 31 points, reaching 1,162 points.
