The Baltic Exchange's dry bulk sea freight index, a key barometer of shipping rates for vessels transporting dry commodities, broke its four-day losing streak on Thursday by edging up approximately 0.4% to settle at 2,003 points, driven by gains in the larger vessel segment. The capesize index, known for shipping 150,000-ton cargoes such as iron ore and coal, also rebounded after a three-day decline, climbing 1.7% to reach 3,239 points. In contrast, the panamax index, which typically transports 60,000-70,000 tons of coal or grain, decreased by about 1.8% to 1,659 points, marking its 12th consecutive session of losses. Meanwhile, the supramax index fell slightly by 0.2%, reaching 1,268 points, its lowest level since mid-July. Overall, the benchmark index showed a robust performance for the month, surging over 34% and achieving its strongest monthly gain since February.
