The Swiss procure.ch and UBS Purchasing Managers’ Index (PMI) experienced a minor uptick to 49.0 in August 2025, up from 48.8 in July. However, it remained below the pivotal 50-mark, which separates growth from contraction, for the 32nd consecutive month. This slight improvement was driven by increases in production, which rose by 5.8 points to 55.4, order books, which increased by 1.3 points to 45.2, purchasing prices, which went up by 4 points to 54.7, and sales stocks, which gained 1.1 points to reach 49.8. On the downside, employment fell by 2.4 points to 46.4, and delivery times decreased significantly by 7.9 points to 51.4. Additionally, purchasing volumes dipped by 1.1 points to 42.0, highlighting persistent demand weakness. According to procure.ch and UBS, sentiment within the manufacturing sector remained largely unchanged over the summer period. Despite high tariffs on Swiss exports and other global events, overall business confidence remained relatively unaffected.
